Doyle, Myrlan Dale                      View/Sign Guestbook

Myrlan Dale Doyle, 81 of Beatrice, died Monday, February 22, 2010 at Beatrice Manor.  He was born July 22, 1928, at Lanham, Nebraska, to Harley and Minnie (Beveridge) Doyle. From Lanham, they moved to a farm five miles north of Odell--Myrlan’s boyhood home.  He attended school at Friendship Country School and graduated from the eighth grade. Myrlan attended Odell High School and graduated in 1945. For several years, he worked on the farm with his dad and then taught school at Anyon Country School for three years. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Finch on May 23, 1948, at the Methodist Church in Odell.  They were blessed with four children in this union:  Jeanne, James, John, and Joan. Myrlan was a member of the 4-H Club and was an adult leader for several years. Myrlan and Dorothy lived on a farm seven miles north of Odell until in January of 1952 when he was drafted into the Army.  He was in the Medical Corps stationed at Camp Pickett, Virginia and then was sent to Food and Meat Inspection School in Chicago. >From there, Myrlan was sent to Japan where he spent 15 months.  He was honorably discharged in January 1954. When he returned, they farmed north of Odell for several years and then moved to a farm east of Diller.  In 1964, they moved to a farm 2.5 miles southwest of Beatrice.  In addition, he worked for Chris Hatchery and then worked for the Soil Conservation Service for nine years. In 1968, a corporation was formed and the farm was developed into Hidden Acres golf course. He worked as Superintendent and Manager of Hidden Acres for 29 years. Dorothy and all four kids worked alongside of him all those years. Myrlan dearly loved everything about the outdoors especially trees and above all the hot summer weather.  He also loved animals, especially his dog Sam who was his shadow on the golf course. His biggest love was his family and was so very proud of all the accomplishments his four children.  He dearly loved his nine grand children. Myrlan belonged to the Pleasant Dale 4-H Club, of which he was leader for several years, the Jaycee’s, Optimist Club, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles.  He served on the Board of Directors of 4-H Inc.  Myrlan was elected as President of the Nebraska Golf Superintendent Association for two terms.  He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church for 50 years.
